Early Intervention
Care Leavers:
Our outreach support service provides an invaluable
link for many young care leavers who have moved on from
residential care and is another important element to
achieving a positive outcome. The level of support required
is determined by the assessment outcomes, is agreed
with all relevant individuals and is as flexible as
required.
Foster Care:
This is a flexible support package that can provide
support for both the carers and the young person. As
above, the level of support is determined by individual
needs and offers respite in both emotional and practical
terms to the familial setting. It is our experience
that this support enables the family to safely explore
their frustrations and develop an understanding of each
others needs.
As part of this package we also offer the carers training
in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) as a behaviour
management model. Because TCI is focused as much on
self-awareness, this enables them to not only understand
and manage the young person’s behaviours, but
also affords a behaviour management structure for them.
Respite Breaks:
This area of the service was developed to enable parents/carers
and young people from any setting, the opportunity to
“take a break” from ongoing conflict before
the relationships irretrievably break down. These breaks
can be tailored just for the young person or as a family
group to assist in the bonding process. The breaks are
designed around adventurous activities with the focus
on problem solving through teamwork. The goal of these
breaks is to enable the participants to re-connect with
each other and transfer their learning to the home setting.
The activities and interactions are supervised by our
qualified outdoor instructors who are also trained in
TCI.
Youth Engagement Programme:
Much is said of the problem of delinquency within
today’s society and the impact this has in local
communities. In our opinion it is not enough to find
deterrents and more must be done to promote youth engagement.
We welcome the opportunity to play a part in supporting
local communities to address their concerns.
Through partnership working, we can provide outdoor
experiences to positively engage young people identified
as problematic within their own communities. It is our
belief that once someone is given the opportunity to
experience our activities, they always discover abilities
previously unknown to them.
We use outdoor education to facilitate opportunities
for young people to learn more constructive positive
behaviours and better ways of coping. By exposing young
people to new exciting activities within their local
environment we aim to physically and mentally stimulate
them to realise their potential and develop a positive
outlook thus reducing behaviours that bring them into
social conflict. It does not make sense to be angry,
negative and destructive if you are enjoying yourself
and can see a way forward.
This experience combined with qualified instructors
skilled in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention is often
the catalyst to positive change.
